Dundee defeated Dundee United 2-0 in the Scottish Premiership derby on Saturday, moving the club to second place in the league. The win was achieved at Tannadice Street, with Drey Wright scoring the opening goal and Owen Bevan adding the second.
Pressley's Praise
Head coach Steven Pressley, 52, praised his players' spirit after the win. He said, "Derby games are never won on tactical detail, they're won on spirit and determination and I think we had that in abundance." Pressley added that the team did not carry out any part of the game plan, but the grit and determination were evident. "It was no tactical detail that won us the game today, it was a group of players that were determined not to lose that derby," he said.
Squad Highlights
The squad features several players who have been nurtured under Pressley's guidance. Ryan Flynn, a midfielder who worked with Pressley at Falkirk, praised his former boss as a master at instilling confidence. Drey Wright, who joined from St Johnstone, became a valuable part of the team. Alan Forrest was picked up after being discarded by Hearts, while Charlie Reilly and Joe Bevan were former Albion Rovers players. Owen Bevan, on loan at Hibernian in 2024, failed to make an appearance but scored in the derby. Centre-back Ryan Astley partnered with the team’s defenders during the match.
Pressley noted that Dundee’s recent form has improved, with five wins in the last seven Premiership matches, and the club aims to build on its eighth-place finish from last season.
