Owen Bevan scores in Dundee derby, dad travels from Southampton

Goal

Owen Bevan opened the scoring for Dundee United in a 2-0 victory over Dundee at Tannadice. The first half began with a sloppy pass from Abdoulaye Yoro, who gifted the ball to Drey Wright. Wright surged out of his own half and smashed a shot past Jack Walton from over 25 yards. The goal was a rare one for the defender, who has not scored many times in his career.

He has driven me up and down the country and dedicated a lot to get me here. He deserves every bit of that success, as I do,” Bevan said. He added that his dad had been there for advice and reality checks during the toughest times.

Overcoming Injuries

The defender reflected on his injury lows. He said, “It is a feeling I have missed, scoring goals. In fairness, I haven’t scored many goals.” Bevan noted it had been three years since his last goal for Yeovil and nearly three years since his last professional game. He praised his recovery, stating, “I feel 100% that I can play every week.”

Team Performance

Dundee United’s high-pressing style was evident. “We are pressing high and looking to dominate teams and be aggressive,” Bevan said. The team struggled to find the net earlier in the season, with some of their summer signings still adapting to the league. United’s goalkeeper, Owen Goodman, was praised for keeping a clean sheet.

Leadership

Captain Simon Murray was mentioned as a key figure. Bevan said, “Definitely, he is a huge part of the team on and off the pitch. He deserves that win as much as everyone.” Murray was fighting back from a second ACL injury but remained part of the squad for Saturday.

Dundee United have lost just one league game, narrowly falling at Celtic, and are now joint-top of the table. Bevan said, “We don’t really look at that. We focus on the next game. All we do is work hard ever and stay humble. We will keep working and there is no limit.” He concluded by emphasizing his confidence: “I feel physically good. I am at that point now.”
