Derby County goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom sidelined for weeks

Derby County goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom is set to miss several weeks with a knee ligament injury. The 28-year-old Sweden international suffered the setback during the Rams' 2-1 home defeat to Birmingham City last week.

He is expected to be sidelined until November, ruling him out of the upcoming Championship trip to Burnley and Sweden's international fixtures against Romania, Poland, and Bosnia & Herzegovina. Zetterstrom had started every minute of Derby's opening seven league matches this season, making 30 saves and keeping one clean sheet.

Head coach John Eustace confirmed the blow to his squad depth. "The injury to goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom is the latest setback for Derby County head coach John Eustace," he said.

Josh Vickers, who joined the club alongside Zetterstrom in the summer of 2023, is set to deputise. The 30-year-old has made 28 appearances for the Rams. Veteran Richard O’Donnell, 38, and recent signing Nicholas Bilokapic provide further cover.

The Rams, who sit 22nd in the Championship with just four points from seven games, face a congested schedule. They have eight matches before the next international break in November. Top scorer Bobby Clark, with two goals this term, will be looking to add to his tally in Zetterstrom's absence.

Eustace's squad is already without defenders Matt Clarke, Craig Forsyth, and Derry Murkin, plus midfielder Lewis Travis.
