Derby County has released star player Callum Elder after a three-year spell at the club. Elder, a left-back, made 86 appearances for the Rams and scored one goal. The 31-year-old Australian began the season as first-choice on the left side of John Eustace's back-line. However, the arrival of Derry Murkin in the January window was expected to push Elder out of the line-up. With Murkin now firmly established as first choice, Derby have chosen to release Elder. Writing on social media, Elder said: 'It's been a privilege and honour to represent this football club for the last three years.' Elder finishes with one promotion to his name following his free transfer from Hull three years ago. He thanked the club's fans for their support and wished them success in the future. Earlier this month, Derby were linked with a move to bring former left-back Max Lowe back to the club. He's out of contract at relegated Sheffield Wednesday. However, there would be questions over whether bringing in a left-back is a priority this summer. As well as Murkin, who showed his qualities following his January switch from Utrecht, Derby have veteran Craig Forsyth in support. Plus, right-back Max Johnston filled in on the left side of the defence late in the campaign.
