Derby County are reportedly lining up a move for Danish striker Henrik Meister. The Championship side are keen on an initial loan with a £1m fee and a permanent option set at £7.7m, according to a report from Derbyshire Live this week.
Manager John Eustace is actively seeking attacking reinforcements. His need was heightened by a season-ending Achilles injury to striker Patrick Agyemang. Who is Henrik Meister?
Henrik Meister is a 24-year-old Danish former youth international currently playing for Italian side Pisa. He joined Pisa permanently in 2024 for £4.3m from French club Rennes, who had paid £6m for him just months earlier after his performances for Norwegian side Sarpsborg. Meister helped Pisa win promotion to Serie A under then-manager Filippo Inzaghi. Last season, however, was tough. Pisa finished rock bottom of Serie A and were relegated, with Meister scoring just two league goals in 28 appearances, a mix of 15 starts and 13 substitute outings. His physical profile is reported to be similar to that of Derby's current leading man, Carlton Morris.
Why would Pisa let him leave?
Pisa's relegation and their activity in the transfer market have opened the door for Meister's departure. The club have already brought in forward Andrea Petagna and are not finished adding to their attack. Meister's hopes of regular first-team football in Serie B look limited.
